"Our Lord"
Leviticus 16:6-16 (ESV)
"Aaron shall offer the bull as a sin offering for himself and shall make
atonement for himself and for his house. [7] Then he shall take the two
goats and set them before the Lord at the entrance of the tent of meeting.
[8] And Aaron shall cast lots over the two goats, one lot for the Lord and
the other lot for Azazel. [9] And Aaron shall present the goat on which
the lot fell for the Lord and use it as a sin offering, [10] but the goat on
which the lot fell for Azazel shall be presented alive before the Lord to
make atonement over it, that it may be sent away into the wilderness to
Azazel. [11] "Aaron shall present the bull as a sin offering for himself,
and shall make atonement for himself and for his house. He shall kill the
bull as a sin offering for himself. [12] And he shall take a censer full of
coals of fire from the altar before the Lord, and two handfuls of sweet
incense beaten small, and he shall bring it inside the veil [13] and put
the incense on the fire before the Lord, that the cloud of the incense may
cover the mercy seat that is over the testimony, so that he does not die.
[14] And he shall take some of the blood of the bull and sprinkle it with
his finger on the front of the mercy seat on the east side, and in front of
the mercy seat he shall sprinkle some of the blood with his finger seven
times. [15] "Then he shall kill the goat of the sin offering that is for
the
people and bring its blood inside the veil and do with its blood as he did
with the blood of the bull, sprinkling it over the mercy seat and in front
of the mercy seat. [16] Thus he shall make atonement for the Holy Place,
because of the uncleannesses of the people of Israel and because of their
transgressions, all their sins. And so he shall do for the tent of meeting,
which dwells with them in the midst of their uncleannesses.
Hebrews 4:14-5:10 (ESV)
Since then we have a great high priest who has passed through the heavens,
Jesus, the Son of God, let us hold fast our confession. [15] For we do not
have a high priest who is unable to sympathize with our weaknesses, but
one who in every respect has been tempted as we are, yet without sin.
[16] Let us then with confidence draw near to the throne of grace, that we
may receive mercy and find grace to help in time of need. [5:1] For every
high priest chosen from among men is appointed to act on behalf of men in
relation to God, to offer gifts and sacrifices for sins. [2] He can deal gently
with the ignorant and wayward, since he himself is beset with weakness.
[3] Because of this he is obligated to offer sacrifice for his own sins just as
he does for those of the people. [4] And no one takes this honor for himself,
but only when called by God, just as Aaron was. [5] So also Christ did not
exalt himself to be made a high priest, but was appointed by him who said
to him, "You are my Son, today I have begotten you"; [6] as he says also
in another place, "You are a priest forever, after the order of Melchizedek."
[7] In the days of his flesh, Jesus offered up prayers and supplications, with
loud cries and tears, to him who was able to save him from death, and he
was heard because of his reverence. [8] Although he was a son, he learned
obedience through what he suffered. [9] And being made perfect, he became
the source of eternal salvation to all who obey him, [10] being designated by
God a high priest after the order of Melchizedek.
